The concept


Project name: Donyo integrated (youth group) sports center.

Project title: Towards discovering the potential within and discovering the power in our talents thus discouraging hopelessness and creating self-employment through sporting activities.

Project objectives:
  1. Using sports as a platform to potentially gifted young boys and girls in Donyo community a chance to progress in their career development that they desire through vocational training.
  2. To build community capacities that appreciates the youths as a pillar of development.
  3. Promoting gender based activities by rekindling the life of young boys and girls through economic empowerment initiatives to promote their well being.
  4. Using sports as an arena to promote awareness on issues affecting the youths of Donyo community like drug and drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, early marriages and teenage pregnancy.
  5. Career, guidance and counseling.
DISC programs
  1. DISC youths.
The program targets youths of 15 to 24 yrs. We have so far managed to recruit 16 active youths who participate in our center. Proposed benefits from;
    • Life skills through counseling.
    • Career guidance
    • Vocational training
    • Apprenticeship placements.
    • Follow-ups.

  1. DISC ladies alive.
Targets young ladies who otherwise have been abused, some were cheated into early marriages; some were lured into pregnancy traps and have lost a sense of leaving. The program seeks to empower them, rekindling their long lost aspiration as we try to uplift them with economic activities. The ladies are projected to benefits from the following;-
·         Reproductive health tips from a qualified nurse.
·         Counseling to uplift their self esteem.
·         Economic empowerment through vocational training and small business.
·         Monitoring and evaluation of their progress.
  1. DISC juniors
The program targets juniors at Donyo community between the ages of 12- 15 yrs. This is a generation of which we seek to mould and grow with them. We have 12 juniors in our program. Projected benefit:
·         Educational empowerment through remedial classes
·         Discipline through training.
·         Support the juniors with school supplies.ie textbooks and learning aids.

DISC success stories

Managed to recruit 12 juniors, 16 young men and 8 ladies to participate and benefit from our program activities. The following are our beneficiaries.
  • Reuben Makenzi, David Mutuku and Samuel Ngola. The gym is currently meeting their school fees.
  • Stephen Ngaari he was a beneficiary of driving course.
  • Joseph Wasike we are projecting to enroll him at Uzuri institute to undertake a salon course.
PROJECTED ACTIVITIES 2011- 2014
  • Scaling up counseling session and career development through vocational training.
  • Improve more on apprenticeship and careers for a marketable society
  • Capacity building and training in self-awareness.
  • Program capacity building to network with other organization with similar objectives.
  • Job creation and economic empowerment.
